This generation came with some modern features that we know today. The first update to the Edge was more interior room, making for a more comfortable ride. The Edge also saw the addition of a rear-view camera. This generation also saw the addition of the new 2.0L EcoBoost engine. This engine was capable of towing 3,500 pounds.
When 2019 hit the market, it saw a facelift that brought some new looks, as well as gear. The new gear is a 12-speaker B&O surround-sound system, this replaces the Sony system from the years prior. The new Ford 8F35 eight-speed automatic transmission came to the lineup. This came with automatic stop-start tech that helped improve fuel economy, as well as 5 more horsepower. This helps save you time, and money while on family road trips, or late nights with your kids.
Some new safety features also joined this year. These were post-collision braking, evasive steering assist, and adaptive cruise control. Thanks to these updates, the Edge received Top Safety Pick from the IIHS, and a five star safety rating from the NHTSA.
2020 and 2021 saw the last updates before the new generation. This was the introduction of the dual-zone automatic climate control, and the removal of the CD player, in 2020. While in 2021, the Edge came with a new standard 12-inch trim that came with wireless phone connectivity, and a new ST-Line trim.
